In this episode we welcome back Ben Hall, the owner and founder of LOFT, to talk about how interior design can shape healthier, more inclusive Build-to-Rent communities.
Ben discusses the tenants’ desire for affordability whilst balancing the vision of the architect or developer of the scheme, especially with the offering of amenities as these spaces are often under-utilised compared to the time spent in apartments. Ben and Howard highlight the importance of engaging with residents early in the planning process and aligning with the company values which helps the developer cater to actual needs, ensuring spaces are both functional and comfortable and to move away from generic corporate designs towards spaces that foster wellbeing and genuine connection.
Ben, Paul and Howard discuss how thoughtful interiors, air quality, and multifunctional spaces can enhance residents’ lives. Ben highlights trends like biophilic design, retrofitting older buildings, and the need for community-focused & flexible spaces.
LOFT’s mission is highlighted; to encourage a feeling of security and safety and to give people more confidence to go into a shared community space. Despite living in high-density environments, many residents, especially younger ones, report feeling isolated. Ben argues that design has a powerful role to play in fostering community and supporting mental health.
Manchester is home to a LOFT showroom where you can explore carefully curated spaces. More than just functional they are thoughtfully designed to enhance where people live.
