We Can Do the Whole Journey | Howard Lord Talks to Insider
Our founder, Howard Lord, recently spoke to Insider Media about the journey behind CERT Property,
We’re delighted to share that CERT has been named Best for Inclusion at this year’s Greater Manchester Good Employment Awards, hosted by the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter.
This recognition means a lot to us because inclusion isn’t an initiative. It’s part of who we are. It shapes how we work, how we support our team, and how we build communities. At our core is a belief in creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and able to thrive.
Forty percent of our team identify as LGBTQIA+, reflecting the inclusive culture that has made this representation possible. Our policies are designed around real people, with flexible working, a relaxed dress code, and a zero tolerance approach to discrimination, ensuring everyone feels supported from day one.
In addition to these core policies, we’ve introduced progressive measures that address challenges people often face quietly. Our menstrual related flexible working policy allows colleagues to adjust their schedules based on how they feel, while our menopause policy provides support for those going through this life stage. Together, these policies help break down stigma and create a culture of empathy in an industry that has traditionally been male dominated.
Our support for inclusion also extends to faith. We offer flexibility for prayer and religious observance, especially during periods such as Ramadan and Eid, and we’re committed to making space for reflection and rest.
Beyond policy, we champion career development. Through apprenticeships, mentoring and inclusive hiring practices, we are creating opportunities for people from all walks of life including those who have been NEET or are living with mental health conditions. For us, inclusion and potential go hand in hand.
Our team also carries these values into the wider community. As an active member of the LGBTQIA+ community, our Community Engagement Marketing Manager, Johnny Villanueva, has led efforts to platform underrepresented voices through inclusive art exhibitions, panel discussions, and support for independent businesses, while also raising funds for Turning Point, a charity supporting people facing mental health challenges, addiction, and learning disabilities.
By championing smaller local artists, LGBTQIA+ creatives and independent businesses, these events have become a space for community connection and real impact and we’re proud to support them.
